Kitchen Build, Day Two and Three

Day Two. Talked to Caro and cleared up a few things about hardware. (I found the hinges). Overnight someone had broken into the house and storage. They unwrapped everything in the storage and a few things in the house. They took my tape measure, instructions, receipt, warranty, and parts list. I spent most of the day checking to see what was missing or damaged, and taking photos of the footprints. Then I built one cabinet (breaking it in three places), started hanging a rail in the wrong place, locked all the doors, and went home.
Day Two
Day Three. Finished hanging all the rails in the wrong place (3 hours). I built all the wall cabinets while B. patched the holes in the floor. After he finished I noticed the downdraft vent was in the wrong place. He’ll fix it tomorrow. I thought better of the placement of the rails and moved them over to catch more studs. I hung the corner cabinet and noticed the rails were at the wrong height. I moved the rails (much faster the third time). Then I ripped one of the rails out of the wall trying to hang the corner cabinet. There is an outlet behind its left edge. I sent myself home after I started throwing things.

Just remember, goofing up is totally normal. We 1) drilled a hole in our new floor; 2) drilled a hole through the face of a drawer in a random location; 3) put in wiring that all had to be ripped out; 4) broke a window; 5) put in the dishwasher incorrectly ad had new countertop bubble on first day of use; … I could go on and on.

Real bummer about the break-in. It sounds strange that someone would break in, steal paperwork and then split….
At least you have your rails up and one corner cupboard in place, all without your instructions!!!

Sorry about the break in – random indeed. But all this work will totally be worth it. Every time you take a glass out of the cupboard, you will be reminded of the excellent product that came out of this hard work!

Oh dude – that makes for a rough work week! knock on melamine that the rest of it goes better. The colour on the walls looks great though!

you might want to start checking the pawn shops for your missing items. warranty, invoices, ikea assembly instructions and materials lists are commonly fenced for a quick fix by your common everyday MCM junkie.

Damn those junkies! Lock up your instruction manuals, ladies, because they are hot, hot, HOT.
