Yesterday, I made a heroic mad dash to the Habitat re-store to get a window for the dining room. When I got there, there was this dude, touching the window I had spotted the day before. I loudly unrolled my tape measure and tapped the window with the end. The dude saw my desperation and took a step back.
The great news is, this window is all wood, has double panes, and is a perfect fit. It even has a sill – bonus. I picked it up for $35 plus tax.
It did not fit in the Camry, and was nearly smashed to bits when one of the panes fell out while the habitat dudes were carrying it. (Nice catch!) I had to run home and swap for the minivan.
When I got to the job site, M was not there, so I thought, “This is where my 10 years of Spanish classes finally comes in handy.” “La ventana para aqui.” Ok, so I would have to point to get the whole message across, but it’s still a multilingual moment for me. I repeated it in my head, “La ventana para aqui.”
I was immediately referred to M’s brother, J. “How’s it going?” he said.
“I brought a window for the dining room. It’s inside.”
I should have at least said it was in “el comedor”.
