Kitchen Design Mockup

On Saturday we popped over to the Tile Guy. The place was teeming with pregnant women and toddlers. We picked up our backsplash sample (CoffeeHouse Blend II). It was browner than we expected, but we decided to make it work. We picked out the floor and paint color in a flurry of decision making. Bamboo floors, white cabinets, almost black counter tops, and yellowish on the few walls.
I mocked it up just to be sure. To my eyes it doesn’t quite gel. I’m not sure why. Maybe the cheesy 3D texture of it. Maybe the Ikea pendant lights, but we’ve already bought them.

It’s got the Polar Express effect. Not real but not fake… somewhere in the middle. I think you sent me a link on it once… Here it is: The Uncanny Valley.

Perhaps putting the red, black or even the yellow color on the back wall of the glass cabinets would help? And maybe carry the yellow across the top above the cabinets over the stove?

The ceiling. Try painting the ceiling the same or similar tone on whatever wall you have there in the kitchen. i’d go with mustard yellow or something a bit darker, perhaps pumpkin spice.

You kids are reading our minds. I saw red in the cabinets when I was getting images for the kitchen lights. And Christiane has been telling me she wants to do bamboo wallpaper on the ceiling. Which sounded so awful I didn’t know what to say until I realized it was wallpaper made out of bamboo, not wallpaper with pictures of bamboo on it.
This is great, keep’em coming!

I agree with the red behind the glass. Also, the picture you just posted with the red in the lights makes more sense the the lights you have pictured which appear to be tan/green. I was thinking it seemed a bit too cottage for what you’ve got going on, but the right in the light really makes it work!

What kind of hardware will you be putting on the cabinets? I see you don’t have any on the bottom ones, and my personal advice is to get something that hinders hands touching the white surface. We used to have white cabinets and they were extremely difficult to keep clean.

We were planning on getting these cabinet pulls from rejuvination. Nice to know there is a practical reason for the backplate.
