Goldilocks and the Three Trims

Today I noticed our pending trim in the front yard. It looked small to me, so I snapped the tape measure off my belt (like a real-life architect) and measured it. Horrors. It’s 3.5 inches. That’s wrong. The old trim was 4.5, and I want the old trim back.
According to the James Hardie web site, they have 3.5 and 5.5 inches. I thought maybe the 5.5 would be a better compromise than 3.5, but I mocked it up just to be sure.
This is where my Photophop skills serve me well. Below is a photo of our old back door with three different widths of trim. The thin 3.5, the perfect 4.5, and the fat 5.5.

Any opinions or advice out there?

I don’t know if this is an option with the trim or not, but we used Hardie board as siding and they didn’t have our reveal so we bought twice the reveal and cut every board in half. It actually went much better then I though. I figured we’d spend a small forturne on saw blades, but if your are mindful of twisting the board when you cut it goes pretty smooth. I would attempt to buy the 5.5 in. stuff and cut it to the needed 4.5 in.

I’d vote for 3.5 inch.

I too vote 4.5 and get the 5.5 and trim it to get there.
We have a house from 1951 and its trimmings are using real scale wood (2×4 was two inches by four, etc.). Our moldings, plinth, and exterior trim has required our going bigger and trimming.
