Speed Trap Ahead

So far, I am loving our contractor. This is a rare thing, from what I hear. Most of the people we talked to complained about their remodeling experiences, and they gave us many, many warnings.
Things aren’t perfect, but he’s a good guy. One of those genuine types who takes pride in his work and is honest about what he can and cannot do. If you’re looking around, or just want a feather to put in your cap for later, his name is Ace and his company is called Superior Renovations (in case you hadn’t guessed from the big-ass sign in our front yard, LOL).
Our draftsman, on the other hand, did a mediocre job, was sloppy, and has so far caused our crew to slap some foreheads. His measurements were off. He didn’t match the elevations to the floorplans. Trusses had to be modified, and a couple of walls will need to come already came down (!) and be were re-framed. Who knows what will come up next. Granted, we were our own architects and came up with our own designs, but we expected the blueprints to take over where we left off, finalizing the original idea and making it executable.
Ah, well. We don’t seem to have lost a huge amount of time yet. If the issues we have come up against so far are our only road bumps, I consider us very lucky.
Updated to add: Within 2 hours, the framers had already repaired any mistakes caused by the incorrect plans. No time was lost, it seems.
And David informs me that I have misused the “feather in cap” metaphor. I hate to admit it, but pregnancy-brain has struck again ;-)

Did you use Ace’s draftsman?

If I remember this right, he was one of three guys Ace knew and had worked with on other stuff. The upside was that he worked for an experienced architecture agency and was licensed. The downside was that we were a side project for him, so he wasn’t giving us his full attention.
