Off with the kitchen!

I drove by the house, oh, four or five times today. Each time, I anticipated the destructive aftermath of today’s scheduled demolition. Each time, I was disappointed.
I was at the low point of a fairly crummy day when David announced that, on his way home from work, he had driven by the house and there was a crew in the midst of tearing out our kitchen. Yay! I had only one question…
Was Hoffa hiding in the jumbo soffet above the stove???

No. Damn. Lost money on that one.
Ideally, the demo will continue all weekend and the framing will start on Monday. In feverish anticipation, David took pics of the latest materials drop: the two sets of doors that will look out over the backyard and master deck, respectively.

I can’t enumerate my glee surrounding those doors. One of the design goals was to increase the indoor/outdoor space. Having these doors in the dining room (facing the backyard) will allow me to keep an eye on the kids outside while I am in the kitchen making dinner.
The guys weren’t finished when we left the site to go to dinner. But I was satisfied. It has been a long two weeks, waiting for the house to come tumbling down. Nothing says happiness like a full dumpster.

I was really hoping to see that annoying bar of soap on top of the demolition pile. Please tell me it’s not staying!

You mean the bar of LOTION that was sitting in the soap tray above the kitchen sink?
Oh yeah, that’s long gone ;-)
