A 1:1 Mockup

I believe in mocking things up. So yesterday, I used the kids’ sidewalk chalk to draw a life-sized version of our new kitchen on the back porch of our rental.

I was trying to explain the concept to our older boy.
Boy: Why are we building the kitchen in the back yard?
Me: It’s just a drawing.
Boy: It’s really flat.
Me: The real cabinets will be higher.
Then the younger one started yelling, “I’m burning! I’m burning!” He was dancing in mock terror on the drawing of the stove. Good one.

The “I’m burning! I’m burning” brought a wonderful smile to my face. It’s just amazing the way their imaginations work.
David – this has been a great story so far. Are you sure you shouldn’t be writing sitcoms also?
I’m going to miss your work on our interface. I always wondered how you did your original mock-ups, but now I know. Chalk and sidewalk….very cool.
